Roman blinds were traditionally designed to block out the light (obviously), but for full blackout they can be customised with a blackout lining on the exterior (window facing side) to achieve this. As romans are sometimes one piece of fabric or large layers stitched together they allow for large patterns which can have more of a design impact on your room so they can become a major feature.
