Rivets are a popular type of fastener used to join two or more pieces of material. Essentially, a rivet consists of two components, a metal tube (body) and a pin (mandrel). The pins are usually longer than the tube and are designed to pull up through the tube while expanding the tube in the process.

This causes the expanded tube to sandwich the material between the two ends of the tube. There are several types of rivets for almost all applications.
