   Several kinds of bearings are used on railway locomotives, such as axle box bearings, traction motor bearings, cooling system bearings, etc. However, the bearings on vehicles are mainly axle box bearings and release bearings. Vehicle axle box bearings are divided into truck axle boxes and passenger car axle boxes. The truck axle boxes mainly use tapered roller bearings, and the passenger car axle boxes mostly use short cylindrical roller bearings.

    The axle box bearing on the vehicle must have a relatively large bearing capacity and be able to resist shock and vibration; better safety and reliability, small size and quality; must also have a long life; easy to check and maintain.

    The railway locomotive axle box bearings have always used standard series of rolling bearings and special bearing technical conditions, among which the commonly used rolling bearings are the following three.

    Spherical roller bearings have the advantage that no tilt compensation device can be provided between the vehicle axle box and the bogie frame.

    The axle box bearing of the domestically imported ND2 diesel locomotive is the C-type spherical roller bearing produced by SKF Bearing Company. The roller of this bearing is symmetrical, the inner ring has no outer rib, the middle rib is separable, the roller and the outer ring are in line contact, the effective working time of the roller is longer, and the asymmetrical Compared with spherical roller bearings, its service life is longer.

    The tapered roller bearings used in railway locomotive axle boxes are double row tapered roller bearings.

    Most axle boxes on diesel locomotives and electric locomotives use cylindrical roller bearings, such as double-row cylindrical roller bearings and four-row cylindrical roller bearings.

The bearing accepts radial forces and axial loads with angular contact ball bearings 146132T.

    At the earliest time, the domestic locomotive axle box bearing was adopted and the largest number of vehicles was the four-row cylindrical roller bearing type 972832. The bearing has high load capacity and long life, and its rated dynamic load is 1445kN. Because this bearing can only bear radial load and cannot bear axial load, a device for bearing axial force must be installed in the axle box.
