Types Of Connectors In Fiber Optic Splice Closure

Fiber optic connectors are devices used to insert fiber optic cables intoFiber Optic Splice Closure . It is attached to the end of a fiber optic cable or Fiber Optic Splice Closure to hold the fibers in place so that they are properly aligned with the fibers attached to the other end.

There are many different types of fiber optic connectors, the more common of which are SC connectors, LC connectors and FC connectors. The SC connector has a push-pull locking mechanism that is very flexible but has high repeatability and low insertion loss. It has quickly replaced traditional connectors, such as ST and SMA connectors, making it the most commonly used fiber optic connector in the fiber optic communications industry. The SC connector can be duplexed with a coupling socket or duplex clamp. In a keyed duplex unit, the SC connector easily implements a form that matches the polarity of the coupling adapter in the fiber optic jack or patch panel.

The LC connector is a small fiber optic connector that uses a 1.25 mm diameter ferrule instead of the more traditional 2.5 mm ferrule used on FC, ST, SMA and SC. The LC is a high performance connector designed for single mode applications. In fact, all LC connectors are not identical, and depending on the style and manufacturer's preferences, there may be attributes that make one connector more suitable for a particular application than the other.

FC fiber optic connectors are popular in test environments and are primarily used in single mode applications. The FC connector has a threaded connection that can be keyed to achieve minimum insertion loss. You can adjust the keys to some extent to lock them in the lowest loss position. Although this tuning is useful in applications that require minimal loss, the insertion loss has a small gain of 0.1 to 0.2 dB and is therefore not used in most applications.
