Intelle Brain So all living things are conscious, albeit to varying degrees. However, if I apply that statement, "to be aware of at least the state of their immediate environment and respond accordingly", then I would have to acknowledge that the fundamental particles are conscious (and have some degree of free will in their response). I'll just cite one example for the sake of being brief. An electron gun fires an electron at two side-by-side slits. If one or the other slit is open, the electron will pass through and impact in one spot on a detector screen opposite.
