I’ve been doing some routine maintenance lately and got curious about the different types of oil filters out there. Between full-flow, cartridge, spin-on, magnetic, and even bypass filters, it seems like there’s a lot more variety than I first thought.
I’ve mostly used spin-on filters (simple and easy), but I’ve read that cartridge filters are gaining popularity, especially with newer vehicles for environmental reasons. Some people even swear by bypass or magnetic filters for extra protection especially in high-mileage or performance engines.
So I thought I’d throw it out to the group:
What type of oil filter are you using, and why?
Any brands or styles you trust or avoid?
Have you noticed any performance differences between types?
Is it worth upgrading from standard filters to something more advanced?
Curious to hear what others have experienced. Always great to learn from those with more hands-on time under the hood.
