The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) registration is a mandatory requirement for businesses involved in the food sector, including manufacturing, processing, distribution, and retailing. This registration ensures compliance with food safety standards and fosters consumer trust.
FSSAI registration is classified into three categories based on the size and nature of the business:
- Basic Registration: For small food businesses with an annual turnover of up to ₹12 lakhs.
- State License: For medium-sized businesses with an annual turnover between ₹12 lakhs and ₹20 crores.
- Central License: For large-scale operations or businesses operating across multiple states.
The registration process involves submitting essential documents, including proof of identity, address, and the nature of the business. Once registered, the FSSAI license number must be prominently displayed on product packaging and business premises.
Compliance with FSSAI regulations not only ensures food safety but also protects businesses from legal penalties, enhancing their credibility in the market.
