Wetsuits are essential gear for any diver, providing insulation and protection. There are two main types: full-length and shorty wetsuits. Choosing between full-length and shorty wetsuits can be a tricky decision.
Full-length Wetsuits: As the name implies, these cover your entire body from neck to ankles and wrists. Made of thick neoprene, often 5 - 7 mm, they trap a thin layer of water against the body, which is then warmed by your body heat, acting as an insulator. Ideal for activities like cold - water diving or winter surfing in regions such as the North Atlantic.
Shorty Wetsuits: These have shorter sleeves and legs, usually ending above the elbows and knees. Usually made of 3 - 5 mm neoprene, they provide enough warmth without overheating. If you value unrestricted mobility for performing acrobatic water sports moves and the water temperature is pleasant, a short wetsuit is a great choice. Shorty wetsuits are great for warmer waters or for water sports where you need a bit more freedom of movement, like surfing in tropical or temperate coastal areas.
