Difference Between Tensioner And Idler Pulley

The tensioner, idler, and damper are three very important engine components. Your car cannot run without them.

The tensioner adds to pressure from an adjustable pivot point or spring mechanism to keep the serpentine belt taut as it circulates around the engine.

There is no recommended time frame for replacing the tensioner, especially since the belt itself usually needs to be replaced before the tensioner. However, the tensioner should be checked every time the car is serviced to monitor its condition and replace it if necessary.

Idler pulleys guide the drive belt around it, creating the tension needed to keep it running properly. The idler is designed to last longer than the car, so it's one of the less likely car parts you'll ever need to replace.

However, plastic or metal (depending on the idler) will wear out with continued use of the part. A failed idler can stop the engine, so while idlers are known for long-lasting engine parts, self-service is important.

Dampers - shock absorbers - are mechanical or hydraulic devices that absorb and dissipate shock impulses. These tiny devices are an integral part of your car's suspension system, but how often should you replace them?

Some manufacturers recommend replacing the dampers after about 50,000 miles or four to five years. However, if you drive over potholes, bumpy roads, or sharp cracks a lot, your shock absorbers will wear out faster. Therefore, measuring damper length by mileage or year is not always ideal. Instead, when inspecting the dampers for signs of damage.

NingBo GSK Powder Metallurgy Co., Ltd. is a belt tensioner pulley factory, which manufactures MIM-Lock Case, MIM-Lock Parts, etc. Welcome to inquire.
