Any painting or sculpture whose meaning is non-objective (not realistic) is considered abstract art. It has its standards and sensitivities. It is still subjective, even if it may be based on the external world. Instead of attempting to reproduce or replicate things seen in nature, abstract art is a type of self-reflection that can make references to anything. It organizes space into a piece of art by utilizing the inherent beauty of color and form, expressionistic approaches, or straightforward geometric shapes.
