Acetone can irritate or damage your skin

Body

Acetone (acetone formula) is a chemical substance used in the production of products such as nail removers and paint removers. Your body also produces this chemical when breaking down fat.

A normal amount of acetone is safe, but excessive amounts can cause problems. Here are the things you need to know.

Acetone in the body

Your body uses sugar or glucose as energy. After eating, insulin hormones transfer glucose from the blood to cells. When your body does not have enough insulin or you eat very little carbohydrates, you cannot use glucose as a fuel. So your body will burn fat.

When your liver breaks down stored fat, it produces a chemical called ketones. Acetone is the main ketone.

When fat is the main source of fuel for your body, you will produce additional ketones. Excessive is called ketosis.

Some types of ketosis are more dangerous than others. Nutritional ketosis is a relatively normal state that occurs when your diet has low carbohydrate content, which may lead to weight loss for some people. But for patients with diabetes, the content of ketone in the blood will be much higher, leading to a dangerous complication - ketoacidosis.

Acetone and other excess ketones in your body will appear through urine. If you have poorly controlled diabetes, your doctor may detect ketones in your urine. A positive test result may indicate that you need additional insulin to control blood sugar.

Acetone Chemicals

Acetone is also a chemical found in nature and is present in many products you use at home. All of these will release acetone:

Trees and other plants, forest fires
volcano
Landfill site
automobile exhaust
tobacco

Acetone is a solvent, which means it can decompose or dissolve substances such as paint and varnish. That's why it is a component of nail remover, paint remover, and paint remover. The company also uses this chemical to remove grease from wool, reduce the stickiness of silk, and make protective coatings for furniture and cars.

Health risks

If used according to the manufacturer's instructions, products containing acetone are safe. This chemical substance is very flammable, so you need to avoid using things such as paint and nail wash near open flames.

Inhaling large amounts of acetone can cause health problems, such as:

Irritating nose, throat, eyes, and lungs
Sore throat
Cough
Dizziness
Headache
Nausea and vomiting
Fast heart rate
Chaos
Unconsciousness
Acetone can also irritate or damage your skin.

How to prevent health issues

If you have diabetes, you should take the medicine strictly according to the doctor's advice to prevent ketones from soaring. Try not to miss any dose. Regularly check blood sugar levels and adjust insulin dosage if necessary. Work with your doctor and Dietitian to get the right amount of carbohydrates in your diet.

The smoke of cigarettes releases acetone into the air. You can reduce exposure to this chemical by not smoking or working with smokers.

When using products containing acetone, such as nail polish remover or paint remover, please stay in a well ventilated area. If you get this chemical on your skin, wash it off.
