Compared to rubber washers, ceramic discs for faucet cartridges last longer. They can last up to a few years before needing to be replaced. They also aren't susceptible to wear and tear like rubber washers are.

Ceramic discs are also resistant to corrosion. The materials used in the manufacturing process, including aluminum oxide and aluminum oxide, provide good hardness and strength. The resulting discs are also slick and lubricated.

However, if you force the handle of a ceramic disc faucet too hard, you may end up breaking the discs inside the cartridge. This can cause a large gush of water to come out of the faucet.

The retaining clip can be removed using a pipe wrench or adjustable pliers. The cartridge can then be lifted straight up. If the cartridge is stuck in place, a special tool may be necessary to remove it.
