The information and wisdom that is inherent to each card will serve as a trustworthy guide through all of life's twists and turns. As you build a sacred relationship with this tool you develop a sacred awareness with yourself that builds trust, faith and surrender. The more respect you show this system the more it will reveal to you. There are basic suggestions that I encourage for working with the Tarot that will help you strengthen this relationship of trust and integrity.
Do not read cards (or do any energy work) if you have been drinking or using recreational drugs. If you have the slightest feeling of your perceptions being artificially distorted it will be more difficult to begin to trust your normal senses. Let your goal be to build and strengthen your extra sensory perceptions to gain heightened awareness and expanded sensitivities. Create a ritual specific to when you want to read cards. This may mean lighting a candle, or using a specific cloth to work on, for example.
